“My dog is aggressive towards men. Can I ever trust her?”
This is something that comes up often and it is because the dog was raised without any men in it’s life, what we call a lack of socialization. Dogs that were not socialized during their imprinting periods between the ages of 8 and 14 weeks may never be able to accept men in their lives. My daughter adopted a 8 month old Shetland Sheepdog that was raised by an elderly single women who lived alone and only saw other female friends when she did entertain. ‘Buddy’ never accepted men and had to recover everyday from my daughter’s 2 brothers and me. This type of aggression cannot be resolved and has to be managed. Buddy did okay with management but never learned to accept the men in his life. Make sure your puppy is introduced to all kinds of people, places and things during his development.
